#MyVillainOriginStory

I found this hashtag on Twitter that made me chuckle. People siting minor infractions as altering their entire view on life. Turning them into a “bad guy”, essentially.

The thought that someone not saying thank you when you keep the door open for them would turn you into a villain is cleverly funny. I think the hashtag started around when the new Joker movie came out. I stand to be corrected as I am almost 40 and not to be counted on as an expert on social media trends. But it makes sense because the Joke is a true villain origin story.

You know where I’m going with this, surely. What is my villain origin story?

Is it stepping into a puddle and getting my pants legs wet?

Is it only realising they got your order wrong at the drive-thru when you get home and you’re already sitting down to eat?

Or is it the moment when he picked me up by the neck and slammed me against the cupboard door and kept choking me with a possessed demon look in his eyes?

The moment I instinctively started clawing at his face and kicking until he finally let go?

Or the moment I was on my hands and knees sucking in ice cold air. Ice cold air coming from a window he’d smashed earlier. Ice cold air that gave me life in the moment but took away all warmth in my world as I knew it?

Hmmm. It really sucks not getting what I ordered though.
